SARASOTA, FL – October, 30, 2024 – The Central West Coast chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (CWC-FPRA) is thrilled to announce its first professional development event for the 2024-2025 year. With two recent hurricanes impacting the Suncoast, the need for effective crisis communication is more crucial than ever. On November 12, at The Sarasota Players, the event “Preventing a Crisis Before it Happens” will help communicators learn where their organizational vulnerabilities lie and help them to prepare the strategies and messaging needed should a crisis develop. Joel Staley, a 25-year corporate communications veteran with experience leading crisis teams for major PR firms, will headline the event. Tickets are available on Eventbrite. Staley, whose career highlights include earning a PRSA Radiance Award for best crisis communication campaign, will share tactics and techniques for conducting an organization’s vulnerabilities assessment and guidance on generating crisis scenario plans that mitigate the discovered vulnerabilities. Gone are the days of the dust-covered crisis binders that sit on the shelf. Through this interactive event, Staley will show how having a trained team with the right mindset and messaging is the best defense against the next issue that might threaten an organization’s reputation. Staley has also been featured on CWC-FPRA’s podcast, Just Following Up…Again, where he spoke about best practices in media training. The first season of Just Following Up…Again can be found on the CWC-FPRA website, PodBean, Spotify, and other major podcasting platforms. This event was originally scheduled in October before being postponed due to Hurricane Milton. Tickets from October’s date have already been transferred to November 12. Those unable to attend the rescheduled event can use the credit for a future CWC-FPRA professional development event (excluding Meet the Media) or opt for a refund.
