Newtown Alive: Storytelling as the Key to Preserving, Sharing, and Celebrating History

November 18, 2021 @ 6:30 am - 8:00 am

$25 – $35
Join CWC-FPRA for an in-person event with speaker Vickie Oldham, President/CEO of the Sarasota African American Cultural Coalition.

A groundbreaking project that incorporates traditional and multi-platform storytelling tools is causing the Sarasota community to take a second look at Newtown, among its oldest neighborhoods. Sarasota African American Cultural Coalition President and Newtown Alive founder Vickie Oldham is leading an initiative to open an arts, cultural, and history center. In this discussion, Oldham will share the project’s evolution from 2014 to the present, and along the journey you’ll meet early pioneers who built Sarasota’s infrastructure, learn about landmarks, and tap into the community’s heartbeat while swaying to its rhythm.

This event takes place in person at The Bazaar on Apricot and Lime. Lunch is included in your ticket and will be provided by First Watch.

Thanks to annual CWC-FPRA Chapter Sponsor, Next-Mark.
