Name: Virginia ‘Ginya’ Carnahan, APR, CPRC
Year of Presidency: 1999-2000 Y2K!
Where are you now? Semi-retired and freelancing in Cape Coral, FL
What FPRA means to you? For more than 3 decades FPRA has been a constant in my professional and personal life. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without it. I have been educated, inspired and challenged by my peers. Accreditation and Certification have given me a standard to uphold as a professional. FPRA has been the source of so many fun adventures, amazing educational opportunities and a beautiful group of people who immediately understand your world!
What was your biggest accomplishment or Ah-ha moment as president of the CWC-
FPRA? I’ve said many times when looking back at my year as chapter President, “it was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” That year I was going through a divorce, with many struggles. Our chapter members were there to fill in the gaps I was not able to cover. Unfortunately, I was not an exemplary president. I have remained dedicated to our profession and chapter by being present and available to speak, mentor, share resources and frequently participate as Image judge, APR proctor and sounding board.
Favorite book or website that you recommend to PR professionals: Now that I am semi-retired, I have time to read. What a luxury! I am reading all kinds of books and find that I learn something from each one – maybe it is engaging sentence structure, or adding a word or two to my vocabulary. I am making up for lost time, I hope.

Thank you for sharing your story, Ginya. You were always so welcoming when I was new in town and joined CWC FPRA in 2006. You were, and are, a strong ambassador for FPRA and a model for being professional, encouraging and just plain friendly.
